When I was a child, I attended the best Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. Weekly we had bulletins to hold in our hand or scribble all over, with the order of worship format. Somewhere in our bulletin there was a Sick and Shut-In List. These persons were normally Shut-In because of an illness, brokenness, or another form of bound whether short or long termed. When these persons would return to the doors of the church, either by their own strength or being rolled down an aisle by a mortician, a praise of some sort would occur. The most boisterous rejoice would erupt because these people were no longer SHUT-IN! Today, and for the last six days I, personally and almost 3 weeks for others around the world, have been Shut-In. I didn’t want to stress my little blog about the new “C” word taking over the World. However, here we are Shut-In from what used to be our normal thanks to Coronavirus. It is my continued prayer God will heal our land! On a lighter note let me tell you about Shut-In. At this point Shut-It is a person, place, thing, or action. We must figure out the best coping mechanism and how Shut-In will work for us. Shut-In has been a delight and unpleasantry at the same time. I rely more to the cooking therapy that has always kept me calm, my greatest love for Shut-In. I would cook for my friends here in Nashville, now it is just moi. I feel pot liquor can cure anything and has been proven to build our immune. Therefore, I cook a pot or two of greens and boiled cabbage weekly. I have found myself eating healthy for real, not too many junk food options. Grapes, apples, and strawberries are my friends again. Weird, I have never been a big meat eater so when I am able to find things, I get fish if I feel the need. When I think of Shut-In as a horrific incident, I am reminded of times when chaos and confusion are in great abundance. People are not being obedient to the laws of the land new or old (STAY HOME)! Lack of necessities needed by all because of Shut-In has caused persons to doubt even more, Church and Government. Grocers, hospitals, companies, etc. are either lacking what we need or completely shut down. Family and friends having to distance themselves for various reasons, this norm effects healthy brain activity, especially mine. Tuning in to social media more and television for shows of what one would consider to be “great” as so much down time is now given, not the best idea. Smoking week and drinking more and more alcohol is not everyone’s Shut-In friend. I know you are reading this and thinking BUT I love what I am doing to cope during Shut-In. However, think of it differently. When was the last time you were Shut-In and could challenge your household on some things single or multi-family? I am not talking about the 3-day vacation without cell reception or 3 days off work because of doctor orders. Rest your mind on heavier yet healthy obstacles: like reading and studying scripture, still taking that 3-5, minute opportunity to talk about God, praying and strengthening your Spiritual relationship, teaching our young girls and boys how to survive in a World that is not always easy, and loving on one another as Christ loved the church. See Shut-In is more than me getting caught up on Queen Sugar, All American, This Is Us, and so many other shows I, too have neglected since before Christmas. Shut-In slowed us down and now we must find the greatest intentions for our lives to be forever changed. Shut-In is a person, place, action, characteristic, or thing in my household. Allow, it to be a positive in your life and not a negative. Don’t let the new “C” word get you because one day you will go through the doors of your worship center, friend’s home, school, workplace, or favorite restaurant WILLINGLY and let them know how your friend Shut-In taught you a few things!

LEARNING TO "BE STILL" has definitely been a task since we have been shut in. I have been spending TIME with my husband & kids! Time with God...family getting on ONE ACCORD with HIS WILL. Each day has a new challenge but EVERYDAY HE GIVES US GRACE.... I WILL TRY AGAIN TO PLEASE HIM & BRING GLORY TO HIS NAME. THANKFUL FOR THIS SHUT IN TIME!
